35.   The Rose and The Rose Beetle

Who will find pleasure in the rose with bitterness in his

heart?

The rose beetle spends its life among blossoms and thorns,

as a human does.  The main difference between the rose

beetle and the human is that the beetle doesn’t blame

others when it’s been careless enough to cut itself on a

thorn.  That rare person who acknowledges his own poor

judgment and blames no one else for his troubles has

graduated from the same school as the rose beetle, who

tucks its bandaged thumbs in its belt and nods off at peace

with itself by the fireside after a long day’s journey through

blossoms and thorns.
